I am Bowen Yan (闫博闻), a researcher at Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. My research focuses on developing intelligent systems that can diagnose and correct their own failures, with applications in embodied AI, coding agents and training progress.

I received my M.S. in Electrical Engineering (Robotics & Intelligent Systems) from Tsinghua University in 2024, where I was advised by Prof. Xueqian Wang. My research focuses on investigating general principles underlying error detection, attribution, and correction across different environments, including embodied manipulation, mathematical and code generation and model design. I am particularly interested in how verifiable evaluation can generate reliable attribution signals that enable iterative improvement in complex environments.

Outside research, I enjoy science fiction and basketball. I am particularly fascinated by ideas in science fiction that explore the future of intelligence and civilization, such as Hari Seldon’s psychohistory and the concept of the “electronic brain” in Isaac Asimov’s Foundation. I also enjoy stories like Detroit: Become Human, especially the character Connor and its exploration of artificial intelligence, autonomy, and the relationship between humans and machines.
